The 8 Limb Path

with Erika Porter
Friday, May 10

When attending a typical yoga class we complete an asana practice - the physical poses - but what are the other concepts we hear the teachers mention? Many of you know that behind every posture there is a rich and meaningful philosophy, but what is it exactly and how can I apply it to life both on and off the mat?

The word “yoga” translates to “union” - meaning the union of one’s mind, body and soul. One of the fundamental philosophical concepts that drives this union is the 8 Limb Path. The 8 Limb Path was laid out in the Yoga Sutras by the father of modern yoga, Patanjali. In this workshop we will take the time to break down each one of the 8 limbs and discuss how this can inform the way we live our lives.
When you can
understand the full picture of what Yoga is, your practice has room to expand. This creates energy for your desires to grow and thereby furthering you along your journey to reach your highest potential. Ultimately, the 8 Limb Path is designed to create a more fulfilling and meaningful life-- and isn’t that what we all want from our yoga practice?
