Pitta is Coming
Yin Yoga + Essential Oils

Friday, May 11
with Amelia Edelman

As we move from slow, cold, earthy Kapha season into the fast and fiery forces of summertime Pitta, let’s take a break to turn inward and heal the body and mind through a series of cooling yin yoga poses that ease the transition and open our connective tissues. We'll also use a different essential oil for each pose to influence both our physical and emotional bodies and enact positive change. We will practice together in comfort and discomfort as we open our bodies and calm our minds.

In this two-hour asana practice, we'll follow the principles of yin yoga by holding each of the poses for time — in order to rest the muscles while stretching the fascia. (Yin differs from restorative yoga in that the body is placed in a stretch rather than simply placed in slack.) Gentle and optional hands-on assists will be offered as well as a different essential oil for each pose and an explanation of how the oils support and nourish the body and mind.

In addition to aromatherapy benefits, the essential oils we'll use are often found to have a wide range of mental and physical benefits that complement yin and restorative asana practice, such as increasing circulation, improving respiratory function, heightening mental clarity, etc.

No experience necessary but please alert the teacher to any injuries or scent sensitivities.
