Vali Forrister Our Community Director

Vali's yoga practice started long before she learned the word yoga. As a small child, she intuitively sat in lotus position and meditated in front of a single lit candle (for which she received much teasing from her 7 older brothers). A graduate of the first class of Kali Yuga Yoga's Teacher Training program, Vali is a dedicated yogini and enthusiastic community builder.

Vali is the co-founder and artistic director of Actors Bridge Ensemble, where she has produced over 90 plays, acted in 30, directed 25, and authored six. In 2004, she created Act Like A GRRRL, a highly-acclaimed writing and performance program for teenage girls find their voice and speak their truths on stage and in life. (Learn more about these programs at www.actorsbridge.org)

A fifth-generation Nashvillian, Vali is a recipient of Greenbrier Distillery’s Louisa Nelson Award, Nashville Business Journal's Women of Influence “Trailblazer” Award, Vanderbilt University’s Women Mentoring Women Award and Broadway World’s STAR Award. She is a member of Leadership Nashville Class of 2014.

She and playwright/director Jeff Obafemi Carr received the Tennessee Historical Commission's 2018 Merit Award for their play ORDINARY HEROES, about Nashville’s role in the civil rights movement, which created a historic partnership between Fisk and Lipscomb universities who sponsored the play.

A highly-regarded acting coach specializing in the Meisner Technique, Vali is on faculty at Lipscomb and Belmont universities, in addition to teaching year-round at Actors Bridge.

Vali joined our staff in November 2017 and she is thrilled to lend her community-building skills to the citizens of the Kali Yuga and looks forward to meeting you on the mat. If you are interested to join Kali Yuga Yoga as a student, teacher or staff please feel free to contact her here: vali@kaliyugayoga.com
