Yoga + Capoeira Fusion Series A Four-Week Course Saturdays 11:30AM-1:30PM Jan 9-30, 2010 with Liz & Leon $75 ($25 Drop-in)* This energetic and exciting series combines Vinyasa or Flow Yoga with the dynamic practice of Capoeira. Come join us as we play with these two dynamic disciplines in a fun filled four week course!! Capoeira is a martial art form that was created in Brazil by African slaves. Since the slaves were forbidden to act with any aggression, they set their martial art moves to music and disguised sparring matches to look like a dance or acrobatic game. The resulting fun, playful and celebratory practice became a whole new recreation sport that still remains an integral part of Brazilian society today. In this four-week course Liz Workman will work with students to fuse dynamic yoga asanas with Capoeira moves for an intense, exhilarating and vigorous class. Each week practitioners will learn new moves to combine into exciting and fun Capoeira matches. Leon Berrios will also be on-hand assisting the class with helpful instruction and awesome sparring demonstrations. All levels and abilities welcome~ You do not have to have Capoeira experience to attend! About Liz Her practical approach and off-beat hip demeanor make Liz’s classes fun and inviting. She loves a challenge and will be sure to push your practice to the extremes, but with humor and lighthearted playfulness. Her experience as a counselor and dedication to the ethical principles behind yoga make her practice no just physically exciting, but thought provoking and insightful as well. More about Liz here... About León  León Berrios  is from  Managua, Nicaragua- Sandino y Ruben Darío’s land. He is a Capoeira  and Salsa Instructor at Dayani Center at Vanderbilt University, YMCA Art Embrace and the Fun Company. He has taught and trained in Europe, Brazil and the United States with renowned Capoeira masters such as Cobra Manca and Joao. In addition, he is an attorney at law in Nicaragua , where he practiced law as a human rights investigator. Currently he works for Conexión América Latino organization, where he is a legal advocate as well as Information and Referral Specialist.
