Yoga for Knitting &
Knitting for Yogis

With Leah & Laura
Sunday, June 21st

A physical yoga practice aims to open the body in order to sit for hours in meditation undisturbed and without pain. Knitting, on the other hand, is the art of mindful sitting deeply engrossed on focused thinking. However, the two disciplines often feel inhibited by their own practice. The yogi finds it hard to cease the white noise of the chattering mind, while the knitter suffers from physical aches and pains limiting the ability to sit for long periods of time. Thus, it appears both the knitter and yogi have much to share- yoga can strengthen and stretch the body for knitting while knitting can be a tool to help focus the yogi’s wandering mind.

Join us for a day of Knitting and Yoga-- combining the disciplines in an easy, fun and creative way!!

Knitting for Yogis
Learn to knit in this fun class designed just for newbies to knitting. We'll learn all the basics to get you started on a scarf: casting on, knitting, binding off and weaving in ends. You'll be able to knit many projects just from this introductory course. We'll also start the class with some warm-up yoga stretches so we'll be limber and ready to knit!!

Yoga for Knitters
Leah, owner and director of Kali Yuga Yoga, will lead this straightforward class going over some simple and effective yoga poses to strengthen the muscles of the back, neck and shoulders used so often in knitting. Furthermore, she will demonstrate helpful stretches to be used before, after and during each knitting session to release tension that builds up over time. All levels and abilities welcome!!

2:45-4PM $25
Knitting for Knitters
After a great hour of Yoga for Knitters, stick around and learn how to knit some beautiful lace facecloths. Knit out of cotton, these facecloths are super soft for yourself, but the easy lace patterns will impress your friends if you give them as a gift with a nice bar of soap. This class is great for knitters that would like to learn simple lace. Prerequisites: You need to be fairly comfortable with casting on, knitting, and purling.

All three workshops just $60!!!!!

About Laura Holder...
Laura is a graphic designer and avid knitter who moved to Nashville from Arkansas in 2001 to attend art school at Watkins College of Art & Design. While attending school, Laura fell in love with Nashville and in love with knitting. She found the repetition in knitting to be extremely soothing and enjoyed that she could, at the same time, create something during this relaxing process. Laura started practicing yoga recently to counteract the physical stress of working at the computer and knitting. She really enjoys the similarities of yoga and knitting and how they can work together to create a balance of creative, physical, intellectual and emotional enrichment.
